The
Critical Early Years
(Program for Children 18 months to 2 1/2 years)
Toddlers are eager to learn, explore, try new things, and master new skills. This is a time of tremendous brain growth in the areas of language, spatial relationships, music, art, social graces, and so much more. If, during this period, the mind is stimulated by the child’s exposure to a rich environment, the brain will literally develop a much stronger and lasting ability to learn and accomplish.
At LSM, we recognize Toddlerhood as the most imperative stages of a child’s growth. LSM’s state of the art Toddler environments are carefully designed to help the child in taking the important first steps away from home — into a warm, nurturing, supportive and healthy atmosphere. You can rest assured that your child will enjoy and flourish in our stimulating social setting that promotes learning, exploration, discovery, and freedom of movement.
Our Toddler Program is a period of self-development, learning self-help skills, and preparation for future learning within a flexible daily routine. LSM Toddler curriculum provides diverse learning experiences in areas of Practical Life, early number concepts, expressive and receptive Language development, music and creative art expression all within a flexible daily routine. We keep in mind the importance of a child’s work, how it must be recognized and protected from interruption. By doing so, we are thrilled to observe the amazing results of our students’ concentration as they work on the didactic materials. These active learning materials prepare students for fine muscle activities, while satisfying their need to think and solve problems.
Language development is an important area of growth for Toddlers as they change daily in their ability to express themselves and comprehend what they hear. Our qualified educators work to enhance our students emerging language skills with social activities, Montessori didactic materials, presentations, finger plays, songs and stories.
We have discovered over the years that the earlier children begin in a stimulating program the more dramatic the results are as Toddlers demonstrate a remarkable ability to absorb knowledge, master new ideas and develop new skills. True to Maria Montessori’s principles of child development, our goal through the year is to “follow the child” to allow children to develop at their own pace in an atmosphere that follows the natural rhythm of the young child. |
